West Coast
On Friday 2 December we travelled from Te Anau to Cromwell, and stayed at Auntie Helen and Uncle David's home (in their absence) and had dinner at the Pisa Moorings Restaurant with Uncle Gerard, and cousins Kate and Daniel and their partners Brendan and Sarah. So good to see people after five years!
On the Saturday drove the 190 kms to Haast, calling in to catch up with David and Helen who were staying in their motorhome on Lake Hawea. Stayed one night in a motel in Haast and then drove 415 kms to Westport. Very beautiful drive but not quick, with twisty roads and one lane bridges. In Westport we are staying in the TripInn an 'historic 1860s building, originally a stately gentleman's residence'. Now a YHA hostel, up for sale like all YHA buildings in NZ, after losses due to lack of tourism during the pandemic. Its a bargain at NZ$1,250,000.
